Taiwan Today with Director-General David Wu
Director-General David Wu
Separated by 100 miles of water across the Strait, Taiwan navigates a complex security environment as China intensifies military and economic pressure. Yet, despite these circumstances, Taiwan’s experiences resisting Chinese military threats, economic coercion and attempts to infiltrate and divide Taiwanese society are priceless lessons for other democracies that are under pressure. Taiwan remains steadfast in defending its democratic values and thriving as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing and high-tech innovation.
Following the 1979 shift in diplomatic recognition, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) was established to sustain this vital partnership between Taiwan and the United States. Functioning as a de facto Consulate, TECO in San Francisco serves as a key bridge for political, economic, trade and technology between Taiwan and the United States.
We are honored to welcome our speaker, Director-General David Wu, who brings extensive diplomatic experience from his previous postings in Geneva and the Netherlands. Currently overseeing relations with Northern California, Utah, and Nevada, Director-General Wu will provide a timely analysis of why Taiwan is so important and is an indispensable partner around the world. Join us for this profound discussion!
