Join us for a timely conversation with Brett Bymaster and former Santa Clara County DA candidate Daniel Chung as they examine a justice system that can swing from overreach to under-enforcement—sometimes in the same community, and sometimes in the same life.

Bymaster knows both sides. In April 2024, Bymaster was falsely accused, arrested, jailed and charged with ten felony counts that carried a mandatory life sentence in prison if convicted. Bymaster and his wife, Dr. Angela Bymaster, M.D. lead Healing Grove Health Center, the only Christian pro-life family medicine clinic in Silicon Valley. The jury unanimously acquitted Bymaster of all charges following a 5 week trial in November 2025, after seeing extensive evidence of the political and financial motivations for the false allegations.

Nine months later, the system failed in the opposite direction. On August 25, 2026, repeat offender Anthony Ross Chavez—freed after sentence reductions and then released again after a violent April auto-theft arrest—fled a police chase and burst into Bymaster’s San Jose home with a gun. Officers stormed the house to protect Bymaster’s family, including young grandchildren. Sgt. Matt Walsh was shot twice; Chavez was killed. Bymaster praised the officers’ “incredible heroism,” saying they did not hesitate in the seconds that saved his family. Officials said Chavez should never have been free.

Bymaster now lives with both realities: the cost of a politically motivated false prosecution that collapsed at trial, and the cost of a violent offender inappropriately released. Chung, who campaigned on faster justice for victims and accountability for repeat offenders, will join him to discuss what those two encounters reveal—and what communities should demand next.
